You can choose between all types of windows available on the market – PVC, aluminum, standard one-ply or three-ply timber windows.
The PVC windows are offered in white or another color of your choice. It's famous for its good heat insulation qualities and the aging of the materials available on the Bulgarian market is from 30 to 50 years (depending on the climate conditions). The thickness of the window is more important than the number of sections, and in the best case it's 80 mm.
In recent years aluminum windows are the main type of windows for residential and public buildings. They're suitable for the Bulgarian climate whit big differences in temperature. Aluminum is resistant to earthquakes and fire and is easy to maintain. It doesn't change its appearance and isn't toxic. The aluminum windows with broken thermal bridge have the same insulation abilities as PVC windows. Usually constructions like facades and winter gardens are executed with aluminum windows.
The three-ply timber windows are the highest quality windows. They're environmental friendly and natural material that has a low value for heat conductivity. Most often it's produced from pine trees.
The main heat losses happen through the glazing and this is the reason why the choice of glazing is more important than the windows themselves. The glazing consists of two or three layers of glass. The double glazing has an optimal thickness of 24-28 mm. During the winter season the low-emission glass is very effective. It has a special layer which lets the sun beams pass and reflects them back inside of the room. During the summer the one-way passing of heat in the rooms facing south is causing problems. In this case it's more suitable to use "all-seasons" low-emission glazing with heat reflection in both directions. The triple glazing is with optimal thickness of 36-38 mm and has a better sound- and heat insulation, but is heavier. Another option for better sound insulation is to use a double glazing with different thickness of each glass.
